possible attempted break-in

>> Saturday, July 31, 2010

Community member reported to me that upon her return from a walk she found a suspicious young man vomiting in her driveway. The suspect appeared to be hanging around her home when she was gone. Community member requested suspect to leave her property, he did so on foot. When community member closer examined her property she noticed vomit around her house entry lock box and the lock box had been tampered with.
I assisted community member to call and report the incident to the police. Police responded to the call but in the mean time I drove in my car to find his current location to report to the police when they arrived. I called community members to ask if they had seen the suspect and one saw him so I reported his location to police, police found the suspect and he was taken away by the police. I will try to find out if he was charged or not.
Mahalo neighbors for helping today, many people helped and it payed off.

Possible Burglary Attempt at C and PAK

>> Wednesday, July 7, 2010

A neighborhood runner observed a woman (25 to 35 years of age, tattoos) trying to unlock the gates at the house on the corner of Paradise Ala Kai & "C" street. The woman had a small American brand sedan (color white). Once the runner approached, the woman left in her car heading toward Pahoa on Paradise Ala Kai.
Does anyone know if there are people attending to that house who would have keys to the gate locks? How can the owners be contacted?
I checked out the locks and they were not opened.
Thanks in advance to the Patrollers for keeping an eye on this property (it has been a burglary target before).
If you have any information, you can contact me, Mahalo.

Suspicious Activity - Yellow truck

>> Friday, June 4, 2010

From a PAKA email sent 6/4:  This suspicious activity was reported yesterday on Beach Avenue.  No police report was made.

Someone driving an old yellow truck (maybe an old helco truck) passed by my house on Beach Rd. near F going towards Paradise, slowing down checking out my neighbor's and my house.  When he saw me looking out the window, he promptly drove off.
It's obvious that my neighbor is away as all the windows and blinds are closed.

05/01/10 - Paradise Ala Kai, Suspicious Activity Report

>> Sunday, May 2, 2010

On Saturday May 1, 2010 at approximately 3:44 PM I called the Keaau Police Department after I observed a screen "bent" and hanging over a open window on a residence at 15-940 Paradsie Ala Kai.  I honked several times but failed to get any response from someone in the house, so I called the Police.  At approximately 4:10 pm police arrived and checked out the home.  Two or three dogs were inside the house, but no contact (no one home) was made with owner or residents.  The Officer whom responded do not believe the house was burglarized but did state he would make a report.

Suspicious Vehicle Activity: 040910 - HBF399, off white Chevy PU

>> Friday, April 9, 2010

Location: Paradise Ala Kai, between C and E, Makai

This morning around 6 am when I left to take the girls to school there was an old off white Chevy, probably half ton truck licence plate HBF 399 parked across the street. It was pouring down rain and I didn't see anyone around. Strange thing is that earlier in the morning I heard sounds from Steff and Steve's place. I didn't know if anyone was staying there. When I got back the truck was still there and I drove past out house and looked at Steff and Steve's. There were no cars parked there. I walked in our house and thought I heard another sound from that direction. I then walked out front where upon a guy had just put something in the bed of his truck, sounded like a 5 gallon bucket which was kind of the sound I heard coming from next door. He then got into his truck and was leaving when I reached the street. Looked about 60-65 years old with grey/white hair and beard. Could have been a fisherman or harmless sightseeing but I thought I would mention because of the noise next door. It also seemed to be a wierd time for anyone to be out especially in a torrential rain.

Suspicious Vehicle Activity: 040710 - HVG708

>> Wednesday, April 7, 2010

Arriving home tonight, I noticed an unfamiliar vehicle parked under trees on A (Amau) Street near F (Lemiwai). I drove by and was taking a picture of the vehicle when a girl emerged. Her response to my inquiry was to say "my boyfriend ran out of gas". I turned the corner and observed the vehicle through a screen of trees. Someone  got into the vehicle and it drove off rapidly. Don't know how the gas got replenished or where the second person appeared from. Very Suspicious. A picture of the vehicle and occupant is attached. Police called at 4:45. Older slammed black Honda 2-door, licence HVG 708.

Vehicle Break In - 3/19/2010

>> Saturday, March 20, 2010

Yesterday at noon my friend was parked at the end of Beach and went walking with his dogs towards Shipman Beach. He does this a few times a week. However this time his truck was broken in to. The people punched out the lock on his car door and took important papers and items from the vehicle. It happened around noon on Friday. He filed a police report.
I was just there on Tuesday and it could have happened to me. I have seen locals there hiding in the bushes and smoking marijuana, drinking beer and gathering. Since there are usually 3 or more of them they are difficult to approach.
Thanks,
Bruce

Camping on County Land

>> Friday, March 19, 2010

Thursday late afternoon, I spoke with a group of (3) people ages (I am guessing) 65-75 years fishing and camping on the county land oceanfront - PAK and C street. They told me there was an ulua fishing tournament this weekend. They said they would be staying until Sunday. They did have a latrine, shower and cooking set-up along with safety stakes and ropes along the oceanfront. I explained that camping was not allowed and did they see the sign. They indicated that they did not see the sign. Their camp did took up most of the access to the public oceanfront.
Friday morning we saw two Police Officers speaking with these individuals.  I will observe if they camp Friday night.

I plan to discuss this type of behavior with the Director of Parks and Recreation within the next few weeks and how we can have a win-win for the both the neighborhood and the public.

02/27/10 - 2 other break ins

>> Sunday, February 28, 2010

Another two break-ins on C street yesterday Feb 27 2010. During the evacuation .

Jill and Cowboy Kamahale's house on "C" . They came in through a shed that leads to the bathroom window. It would have had to be a very slim person. They went through everything. Jill and Cowboy are on the mainland and have friends staying there. Nothing was taken that they know of. The T.V. is huge and would take 2 people to carry.

We are thinking that the person could be on a bike. A week a ago A guy was riding down Kaloll just off of Beach. FAST! His bike was broken. he was slim in build, with shaggy hair in his twenty's. Wearing a blue back pack that looked full and heavy. He was sweating and in a hurry. I passed him and remembered that I saw a guy near our house the day of Klause & Terri Schnider's break-in with a blue back pack on a bike. So I Went back to talk to him. Asked where he lived . He said 8th and Kaloli. I offered to give him a ride in the back of the truck because his bike was broken and I wanted to know where he lived. He lives in 2nd house on the right. Up Kaloli from beach to 8th go right. His name is Jake. House has broken down cars and dogs tied up. Kind of junky looking place.

Also Mike Welch chased a guy that came from the bushes and jumped on a bike about a month ago on beach road. When he finally caught up with he and was asked where he lived the guy said 8th street. Yesterday the police caught a guy on 8th street for breaking into houses. Is this the same guy?

Another house got broken into on 'C"street yesterday besides the Kamahale's Two houses down. I do not know the names of the people. The police were there and questioned the Kamahales friends about seeing anyone. So that is 3 break-in that we know of yesterday!

patrol summary for February 2010

>> Thursday, February 25, 2010

I have patrolled each day by vehicle with signs (vs) for about 1 hour for the whole circuit and on foot (f) for 1 hour daily on PAK only. I also did a station watch on 2/22 from 9:30 am - 2 pm. I countred 5 walkers, 7 cars and 10 trucks.

The vehicle patrol especially seems to be well received by the neighbors and is bringing a real sense of community and good will to our area. People like seeing the official marked vehicle come by. I've also noticed several unknown vehicles speed up and leave the area upon seeing the official patrol vehicle.

Possible suspicious activity:

2/2 6pm (f) white pu HHH 198 parked in front of rental property. Owner notified.
2/18 1pm (vs)blue van GVZ 966 parked on private property across from county land.
2/21 6pm (f) white truck M.. 262 driving very slowly on PAK.
2/23 10am old blue sedan HCW 060 driving slowly stopping at driveways on PAK.
Upon seeing patrol station watch in my driveway it sped up.
2/24 9am (vs)white truck HJZ 357 driving slowly on PAK and Lilikoi. Departed area.

Very suspicious white truck that has the words Allied Roofing on it.

During my patroll I observed the truck in the driveway at 1717 Beach road, male about 40 med height med skin color was getting into the truck. I felt that he was entering his truck because he saw me comming around the corner from Ali Kai. Suspect truck headed down the dirt road of Beach Rd. , I was going the opposit way on Beach, just finishing up my patroll. I went to the house and found the owners were not home. I went to the house nextdoor and the owner stated that the did not request a roofer to come.
I went home and looked on the internet and the phone book to find Allied Roofers and there were no listings for that company in Hawaii.
I could not get the Lic. number but the name Allied Roofing is highly visible on the truck.

02/07/10 Toyota Tacoma HKD572

Aloha JoAnne...
I reported this to the police on Friday, Feb. 5th the day before these three break-ins. There was a Gold Toyota Tocoma SRS Truck license plate number HKD 572. I think I registered HKO with the police. Perhaps I have just described someone that lives in Kaloli Point. If they had a sticker, they would have been able to be identified as local. They were parked on F street in front of an empty lot, across the street form me. When I went to check them out, they saw me and left and then cruised up and down the streets very slow, looking at houses and stopping a certain ones. I followed them in my car and called the description into the police, who then sent an officer. The houses they stopped in front of were not for sale. They also had a bicycle in the back truck bed, which seemed unusual. They went up F, made a right to the end of B, turned around and came up to K, then up to A and went left and over to Paradise Ala Kai. The driver was a grey short haired women in her late 50's and a male passenger with a long grey beard in his late 50's. They waved at me. They seemed like the type that you would not think of as burglars, but maybe that is the problem.

Details - Attempted Break In?

From an email dated 02/08/10

From Sam:
This morning (2-8-10) about 6:45 a.m.,  break-in tools were found on the oceanfront lanai at 15-937 PAK, which were not there at 5 p.m. yesterday.
Also this morning, next door to 15-937, the doors of the new house were found unlocked and one garage door was part way up.  Nothing appeared to have been removed but the French doors upstairs, ocean side, had been forced open from the outside, which means the thieves came in over the upstairs rail.
When this was reported to me, I called the police but they didn't get here until 8:30.  They had been told by dispatch that there were "fishing poles" on the lanai instead of burglary tools.  The person who told me about the tools also came over so the police could take reports from both of us.

Small silver sedan - HKT 501 was  in the driveway of the blue and white house for sale by owner on PAK.  A young couple was out of the car and  passed the driveway barricade and looking at the ocean.  When I went by the house a second time, the couple was getting into their car and they drove away.  I did not see them stop at any other for sale houses.  Most likely they were admiring the ocean view.

Meat Trucks - Suspicious Activity

From email 1/30/10
We now have had reports of three different meat companies, with three different license plate numbers, same vehicle type - a white Ford Ranger. Two of the license plates reported are similar, which could be a case of transposing the information. Or, it may just be that what is and what is perceived are not the same. Which is why the courts don't rely solely on eye witness reports.
Below is the online information I have been able to obtain. If approached, say you aren't interested at this time. Ask for a business card. Note the description of the driver, the description of the license vehicle and the license plate. Note also, the date, and time.

Best Western Meat

>> Friday, January 29, 2010

From recent email Alerts:

There appear to be two trucks making the rounds here:

Best Western Meat - 352TLC (logo on truck same as on website) - Driver with company T-Shirt and armband ID
Western Meat - 141TTC (sloppy lettering on truck) - Driver sloppy appearance

Here are two of the emails I received on this:

Joanne
The" Best Western Meat" truck is in our area today a late model ford ranger- I didn't get the license but it was different truck and guys than the other day- I spoke with him at length in my driveway and he seemed to know that people were talking about their presence and reputation and he protested that he was from Oahu and trained professional to sell meat from door to door -He had on a company T-shirt and and armband ID Tag -They actually have a website and their logo is the same as on the truck that was here- This company is from Oahu and seems legit--This was totally different from the the truck that i saw two days ago that had a sloppy lettering that said "Western Meat" and a sloppy guy that came to the door-
I am remaining vigilant and have a loud siren installed on my burglar alarm.
