Home Alarm

>> Saturday, December 26, 2009

Heard an alarm sounding in the neighborhood around 7:00 pm. After talking to Scott B., I drove north on Lemiwai to investigate. Drove down to E and down to PAK then down to Lilikoi, looping a number of times. Alarm had been shut off and no source found. Campers appeared to be in place at the access point on PAK but no other suspicious activity observed. No suspicious activity to report. Police not called. Returned home at 7:30. David M.

Break In - 2 Seperate Alerts Issued

>> Monday, December 7, 2009

From one of  the email Alerts issed 12/07/09:

At approximately 6:00 this evening I interrupted a break in at our neighbors house at 15-955 Lemiwai Rd. The house is a vacation rental and currently unoccupied. I saw both young men, probably in their early to mid 20's, both local, short hair and looked reasonably clean cut. One was dressed in a white tee shirt and plaid long shorts, the other had on beige tee shirt but I could not see what else he was wearing. The one in beige was standing as a look out, by a car that was parked under the trees at the intersection of A (Ama'u) and F (Lemiwai) facing down A street toward F. The car was an older model car, 4 door, metallic gold color. (probably 15+ years old)

As I was walking out our door leading down the stairs to our yard, I startled the man with the white tee shirt on as he was coming out of the neighbors house. He banged the door shut and began to run up the side of the yard as soon as he saw me. I ran down the stairs because I saw the car sitting out in the road and the other guy standing beside it. I unfortunately had bare feet and was unable to get to the driveway fast enough to get a licence number. They both jumped in the car and tore off down Lemiwai Rd. toward Beach Avenue.

The caretakers were not at home so my husband (David) called the police and then proceeded to locate the caretakers. The police arrived and took the details. The caretakers arrived back about a half hour later and confirmed the burglers had been in the house. They had attempted to remove a flat screen TV that was bolted to the wall and was obvious they had ripped through all the drawers. They don't believe anything was taken -

We will also file a report on the PAKA Blog.

Keep your eyes and ears open everyone . . . and keep your doors locked! These guys are bold!

"The house with the whale mural at the corner of PAK and E was burglarized around 2 a.m., while the owners and their rotweiler were home. They took a desktop computer, an iPod, cash, and a six-pack of beer, leaving behind other valuables and credit cards.
These are all the details.
Stay alert. Report ALL suspicious activity ASAP to 935-3311 and send me an email with the details."

7:25AM Jog/Walk- Private Property Question

No suspicious activity to report.

Saw a neighbor from F street on a newly constructed house lanai which clearly has a "Private Property-No Trespassing" sign. Then he proceeded to the oceanfront.

Question: As a person on patrol, should I have asked if he had permission to be on the property? If not, remind him that he is trespassing or just leave it alone because I know the individual?

No suspicious activity to report.

On Friday, Oct. 23, Susie Osborn and I did a 40 minute parol. There was no suspicious activity but drivers did slow down when they saw the amber light. At the end of our patrol we were returning home going south on Paradise Ala Kai and were flagged down by a jogger. The jogger reported a blue pickup truck with a white cooler inside had just gone speeding by (traveling north on PAK). She had not been able to get the license plate due to the speed of the truck but was concerned not only for her own safety but for that of a child who was playing close to the road while his father (I assume) cleared a lot. I turned the car around and went looking for the truck since it had not passed us. I found it in front of a house on K street and took the license number. The owner came out upset but we talked to him, explaining the goals of PAKA and why we had to report him. While he didn't admit to any wrong doing, he did calm down and listen. PAKA can and does make a difference!

No suspicious activity to report.

Took a picture of the roadway on Kupaoa into the Shipman property. Looks heavily used. I think it crosses other private property before Shipmen. Want to ask Officer Finkey what we should do.

In addtion,  there are often cars at the Beach road stone block to the property. It clearly states with signs that there is no tresspassing onto the Shipman property. Oblviously, folks are hiking into the beach.  Also, I have seen in the newspaper that  Hilo Parks & Recreation organizes hikes across the Shipman property to the beach.  Is this tresspassing or not??? I am confused...
